Was it the course of shock therapy? Was it the solar flares? Was it the unrelenting diet of sugar and Spam? Who knows, but from the ashes of Orlando Seale and The Swell, HARPO SMITH was born.
This is not just a rebrand of an old band, it’s a jubilant new project, a Dadaist tranche of home-grown bouffon Art-Rock.

Harpo Smith’s debut EP is a taster of the upcoming album, ‘How To Spend It’.
The title track, Superyacht, is delivered in the voice of a swaggering, love-sick, possibly murderous oligarch. The EP also features Timeshare and Terrible Girl, both inspired by advertising and spam email.
HARPO SMITH has gotten off to an auspicious start with gigs, supporting Nadine Shah at Omeara and Lux Lisbon at Scala. The band were also invited to play at Abbey Road Studios as part of a celebration of Lennon and McCartney’s songwriting hosted by Lauren Laverne alongside speakers Howard Goodall and Pete Waterman.
